The Fresno Monsters announced some big news over the weekend as they took to Instagram to reveal their transition from the Western States Hockey League to the United States Premier Hockey League. The Monsters will be joined by seven other WSHL teams making the switch to the USPHL In order to form two new western conferences.

After doing some digging, this seems to be a solid move for the Monsters. The USPHL Instagram page is full of player commitments to division three colleges all around the United States. The league is also the biggest developmental league in the United States, comprised of over 170 teams split up into multiple divisions.

It‘s hard to say how different the competition in this league will be compared to the WSHL, but with the amount of D3 college commits, I’d venture to say its similar if not slightly better.

Like any developmental league, the USPHL‘s mission since its inception in 2012 is to develop young men into better hockey players, but what stands out developing over 2,500 players in just eight years. Our Fresno boys are going to get more exposure to college scouts along with an east coast showcase and a shot to represent their conference in the USPHL National.

All in all, I’m excited for the Monsters moving forward and hope to see more of our alumni earn scholarships and continue their hockey career with the help the USPHL.
