At this point, it would take less breath to read off the players who are still healthy for the Avalanche rather than the injury report.
Mikko Rantanen will be out "weeks" according to Av's head coach Jared Bednar after taking a nasty tumble into the boards against the Lightning on Monday night. The young Fin, who dealt with injury earlier in the season, was finally starting to hit an offensive stride after a slow start returning from his previous injury.
The Avalanche had already lost Nazem Kadri, Matt Calvert and starting goaltender Phillip Grubauer prior to Monday Night's 4-3 OT loss to Tampa Bay. Adding Rantanen to the list will complicate things for the Avs heading into the final stretch of the regular season before playoffs, especially with the trade deadline looming.
Looking to plug the holes in the lineup, Colorado has called up 2018 first round pick Martin Kaut. The young winger will play Wednesday against the Islanders and is slated to fit into the third line with Pierre Edward Bellemare and Matt Nieto. After a slow start to the season with the Eagles, Kaut bounced back offensively and has 16 points in 31 games.
